Duncan’s parents live in a manor house on the Isle of Wight, surrounded by a large garden filled with mature trees and planting. In his retirement, Duncan's father spends much of his time caring for the garden, tending trees that have stood there for hundreds of years.
With such a setting, Duncan wanted to give his parents something that would feel at home in the landscape. A tree that would quietly mark their special day and become part of the garden’s ongoing story.
The crab apple tree is known to the ancient Celts as the “Tree of Love”, making it a particularly fitting choice for a Golden Wedding Anniversary. In January, tree saplings are in their dormant phase, often appearing bare, but this is actually one of the best times to plant. As spring arrives, the tree comes back to life, ready to grow into its next chapter.
Duncan’s parents are also members of the National Gardening Society, opening their garden to the public twice a year. Visitors are invited to walk the grounds and enjoy the scenery, and now, their crab apple tree will be part of that shared experience for years to come.
