New Year's Trees

I’m sure everyone has already made their New Year’s resolutions. Perhaps some of the naughtier among us have already broken a few. And maybe some of the truly hopeless have ditched them altogether, telling ourselves we’ll try again next year.

New Year’s resolutions often feel boring. They tend to revolve around cutting out the things we enjoy—chocolate cake, cheeky drinks, you name it. And while it’s true you can have too much of a good thing, do resolutions really have to feel like punishment?

So, I get it—the last thing you want is yet another New Year’s resolution. But hear me out. I’ve got one more to suggest, and it’s simple, rewarding, and meaningful.

Here it is: the best New Year’s resolution ever—plant a tree. That’s it. So simple. So powerful. So good in so many ways.

Why should you plant a tree as a New Year’s resolution?

  • Planting a tree is great for the environment and local wildlife. Choose a native tree like a Rowan Tree - birds love their berries in January.
  • You get to enjoy home-grown fruit. Imagine picking an orange straight from your own Orange Tree and popping it into the juicer.
  • Watching a tree grow over the years is incredibly satisfying and gives a beautiful sense of continuity.
  • Plant a tree to help protect the rainforest—it’s a gift that truly gives back.
  • It’s a great activity to do with children. A tree-planting session is a fun way to teach them about nature and wildlife.
  • Trees offer peace, calm, and a deep connection to the natural world—perfect for easing the weekday blues.

We hope you’re enjoying the New Year so far! Don’t forget to stop by and say hi on Twitter.
