Amelanchier canadensis is a small, early-flowering tree with a dense, upright growth habit. It produces an abundance of white, star-shaped blossom in early spring, followed by edible, blue-black berries and stunning foliage throughout the year.
The young, spring foliage starts as an attractive bronze colour before changing to mid-green for summer. It then transforms into shades of yellow, orange and red for a colourful autumn display. Perfect to grow in any garden, this small deciduous tree changes through the seasons bringing new interest every month.
This small shrub is originally from North America and can be trained into a small, single stem tree but is generally multi-stemmed due to the suckering growth habit. It’s sometimes known as a Serviceberry or Juneberry as the fruits are ready to pick in early summer.
Hardy in most places throughout the UK even in severe winters. May not withstand open/exposed sites or central/northern locations.
