Hazelnut Trees brilliant features of the British countryside. When they mature, their grey-brown bark peels for a distinct texture, yellow catkins begin to grow and hazelnuts are ripe and ready to be picked every October.
In autumn, the lush, green leaves become orange and brown before falling off for winter. Since Hazels are native to the British Isles, they happily withstand our cold winter ready for another spring.
In Celtic mythology, Hazels were known as the ‘Tree of Knowledge’, a symbol of wisdom and inspiration. Also, hazelnuts were given to brides as they were said to bring good fortune. So, besides being an exceptional culinary gift, our Hazel Tree Gift can be given to students to show appreciation for their creativity and wisdom or to brides-to-be for their wedding day.
We also offer a Hazel Truffle Tree Gift for those who cherish exquisite flavour. The roots of this native tree have been inoculated with British spores, so with the right care and time, prized truffles can grow!
Nut trees require very little attention. They can be planted in a medium-sized garden straight away or grown in a pot for 5 years before finding a spot to settle in. They thrive in full sun and many conditions except for waterlogged soil. Shallow soil will restrict growth and nut production. Its ultimate height is around 6m (20ft) so be sure there is room for it to grow.
