The Chinese considered peaches to be the most lavish of all the fruits and were considered a symbol of mortality.They are undoubtedly amongst the juiciest of garden grown fruit. Peaches are low if fat and high in fibre and are a great healthy snack, they are also brilliant for deserts and perfect in fruit salads. The fruit will store in a refrigerator which will slow down the ripening process. The Avalon Pride peach is a fairly new variety, it is a large fruit with an orange-pink blushed velvet skin and packs a juicy sweet flavour. The tree seems to be resistant to leaf curl and is fairly low maintenance, it is also perfect for smaller spaces and makes a great garden tree. The Avalon peach blooms stunning pink flowers from early spring, you do need to be careful if it is still fairly cold as the flowers do need to be protected from frost. The delicious fruits are ready for picking from early August.
