More mums discharged on Xmas Eve - 11/02/10
Christmas Eve sees more new mums discharged than any other day of the year, according to NHS figures. That's a lot of late Christmas baby gifts to be bought!
Meanwhile, the least are discharged on Boxing Day, figures from the NHS Information Centre show.
Some 2,266 new mothers were discharged on Christmas Eve, figures for births from October 2008 to last September show.
Meanwhile 2,0131 were discharged on the second most 'popular' day of the year, September 25.
December 26 had the fewest at 1,349, followed by December 28 (1,361).
NHS Information Centre chief executive Tim Straughan said: "Our figures suggest an interesting pattern of activity in NHS maternity wards across England during the Christmas period.
"It appears more mums have an NHS birth on Christmas Eve compared to any other day in the year.
"In contrast, however, the days after Christmas Eve are much quieter than average."
